The tour guide driver Yanis was perfect for our tour. He picked us up on time and drove us safely to each of our destinations. He was very knowledgeable and shared important information with us about each and every stop. The purchasing of our tour tickets was done online and was very easy. We highly recommend this tour including the visit to Fragonard.

Loved the relaxed pace. The guide let us wander at our own speed and didn’t rush anyone. The best part was the history stories on the drive.

Went with my bf for a half-day escape from Nice. The roads are twisty and kinda made me a bit motion sick, but the stops were worth it. Eze is like a fairy tale. Our guide, Sophia, gave us a ton of little fun facts (did you know Grace Kelly’s wedding dress is kept in the palace??). Monaco was BUSY but still managed to snap a pic of a Ferrari. Wish we had more time at the gardens tho, felt a bit rushed.

Amazing day! Went solo and made some new friends. The guide made the whole group feel welcome. Loved Port Grimaud—it’s like a hidden gem. Bring a hat, it gets sunny!

Nearby Cities

If you’re looking to trade icy streets for seaside sunshine this festive season, New Year in Nice is a dream come true. The French Riviera’s winter feels like spring elsewhere—palm trees sway gently, the sea glimmers turquoise even in January, and locals fill the promenades instead of hiding indoors. Between elegant dinners, and fireworks over the Bay of Angels, Nice makes ringing in the new year feel effortless.

The city perfectly balances glamour and warmth. You can dance beneath the stars along the Promenade des Anglais one night, and wake up to the sound of waves the next morning.

Top things to do in Nice during New Year’s week

Celebrate on the Promenade des Anglais

This seven-kilometre seaside boulevard is where the entire city gathers on New Year’s Eve. As evening falls, families, friends, and travelers fill the promenade with laughter and music. Food stalls serve crêpes, churros, and hot chocolate. As midnight approaches, all eyes turn to the horizon as the sky erupts in a show of color. Bring a bottle of prosecco, a scarf, and your camera.

Explore Vieux Nice by night

The Old Town takes on a warm, golden glow during the holidays. Wander through its maze of alleys lined with pastel houses, artisan boutiques, and local bistros. Stop at Cours Saleya Market, still lively in winter, for candied fruit, lavender honey, and Provençal souvenirs. At night, the streets hum with jazz and French pop. Many small wine bars, like Cave de la Tour, stay open late for celebratory toasts.

Visit the Christmas Village at Place Masséna

Nice’s Village de Noël remains open until early January, keeping the holiday spirit alive well into the new year. Skaters glide across the open-air ice rink, children line up for carousel rides, and the scent of crêpes and vin chaud fills the square. The Ferris wheel offers panoramic views of the illuminated city—especially beautiful at dusk. Don’t miss the Promenade du Paillon Fountain Show, which turns into a light spectacle at night.

Take a day trip to Èze or Monaco

If you want to start your year with something memorable, venture beyond the city. Èze sits high above the sea, its medieval lanes winding toward a cactus garden with sweeping Riviera views. Meanwhile, Monaco offers high-end dining, harbor lights, and one of Europe’s most glamorous New Year’s Day brunch scenes.

Toast the new year on a Riviera dinner cruise

Step aboard a cruise departing from Nice’s port or nearby Villefranche-sur-Mer for an elegant evening at sea. You’ll dine on Provençal seafood and local wines as the shoreline glitters in celebration. The calm Mediterranean waters make this a serene way to celebrate, especially for couples or families seeking a quieter kind of luxury.

Go for a scenic coastal hike

If you need fresh air after a night of celebration, hike the Sentier du Littoral, the coastal trail connecting Nice to Villefranche-sur-Mer. The turquoise views and Mediterranean flora are refreshing in winter light. Pack a snack and enjoy a tranquil start to the new year.

Your perfect 2-day New Year itinerary

Day 1 – December 31: Riviera countdown and seaside glow

Morning: Ease into your day with breakfast at Marché du Cours Saleya, where locals shop for flowers and produce even in winter. Try a slice of socca (chickpea pancake) or a croissant from bakery. Then, walk to Place Masséna, where the Ferris wheel and decorations make for beautiful photos.

Afternoon: Head to Castle Hill (Colline du Château) for sweeping views of the coastline. The climb is worth every step, but you can also take the lift from Rue des Ponchettes. Have lunch at Le Bistrot d’Antoine, famous for its hearty Niçois dishes and lively atmosphere. In the afternoon, visit the Musée Masséna, a Belle Époque villa that traces the history of the Riviera’s glamour.

Evening: As twilight sets in, head toward the sea. The promenade begins to buzz with energy—musicians, vendors, families, and couples all gathering for the celebration. Dine at La Rotonde Negresco, inside the legendary Hotel Negresco, for an elegant meal under twinkling chandeliers. When the clock nears midnight, step outside to join the crowd on the beach. Fireworks light up the bay, and the reflections on the water make for an unforgettable sight.

Day 2 – January 1: Slow starts and Riviera sunshine

Morning: Wake up to the calm sound of the waves and head for a late brunch. Paper Plane Café offers excellent vegetarian options, while La Petite Maison serves Mediterranean comfort food. Locals often take part in a light-hearted tradition called le bain du nouvel an—a quick dip in the chilly sea to start the year fresh.

Afternoon: Spend your first afternoon of the year exploring Cimiez, Nice’s peaceful hilltop neighborhood. Visit the Franciscan Monastery from the outside and stroll through its gardens overlooking the city. If you prefer coastal views, take the train to Villefranche-sur-Mer for lunch at La Mère Germaine, a historic seafood restaurant by the harbor.

Evening: Return to Nice for a relaxed walk through Promenade du Paillon, where the fountains light up as evening falls. For dinner, try Peixes, a local favorite that serves creative seafood small plates. End your evening with a quiet toast on your hotel balcony or one last seaside stroll because few places start a year as beautifully as Nice.

Know before you go

  • Weather: Expect mild days (10–15 °C) and cooler nights; just pack warm layers, you don’t need parkas.
  • Crowds: The promenade and Place Masséna get lively by 9pm on New Year’s Eve; arrive early for good fireworks views.
  • Dress code: Chic but comfortable, like elegant coats, scarves, and polished shoes. Upscale venues like Negresco require smart attire.
  • Transport: The tram network runs extended hours on December 31. Taxis and rideshares surge after midnight; walking is often the fastest option.
  • Budget tip: Many restaurants offer fixed New Year menus from €70–€150—reserve a week ahead.
  • Local etiquette: Toasts are made with “Bonne année !”—say it with a smile and you’ll fit right in.
Extend your visit until Epiphany on January 6, 2026

If you can, stay until January 6, when France celebrates La Fête des Rois (Epiphany). Bakeries across Nice sell galette des rois, a golden puff-pastry cake filled with almond cream and hiding a tiny porcelain charm called a fève. Whoever finds it is crowned “king” or “queen” for the day. It’s a sweet finale to the Riviera’s festive season.
